Mondo alterado

Since winter 2021, Île/Mer/Froid has been based at the Boisbelle studio, in residence with Hervé Rousseau.

The Mondo alterado exhibition reflects this encounter in action, an adventure that began with four people and continues with three, the discovery of the land and the impact that shared experiences have had on life and work.

The period covered is vast: almost three years. Three years of comings and goings, of working together, during which time does not stand still, shared between other residencies and other exhibitions, but where Boisbelle becomes a landmark, a relay, a rallying point to which one returns regularly to lend a hand with each firing. A collective life has gradually taken shape there. Beyond the residency, IMF participates in the life of the studio throughout the seasons. They go to the forest to collect wood, cut it, split it, and form piles that mark out the space around the kilns. They mine and prepare the red sand collected in the forest, make clay from the pile of raw sandstone, load and unload the kilns, fire and build kilns, cook and learn to throw pots during quiet hours.

Mondo alterado is a landscape. It is a landscape shared between Boisbelle, Larzac, Lozère, Aveyron and Cantal, a composite countryside where we can perceive the influences and rebounds through which practices develop and transform, how they feed off each other.

The forms that populate it seem to be organised between the workshop, the forest and the field, in a sabbath mixing raw materials, represented figures and the imprints of the bodies that shaped them. We can see how collective energy, encounters, practice and the culture of the land have infused the work, and thus how worlds, by blending together, become something else.
