Substituts (Les répliques)

The Répliques painting series, begun in 2020, revolves around the central question of mimesis in figurative painting, associated with the question of reproduction.

By choosing to work (Réalisées) from poor models (lookalikes, wax statues, artificial stones and plants, etc.), these paintings set out to address the double of the double, the representation of a representation.

Constructed as a collection, these documentary-style images from various sources are unified by their treatment in painting and reorganised by subjective themes (Fetish, Hollywood, Ancient Greece, etc.).

The approximate similarities between the models and their strangeness are respected as much as possible.

This mise en abyme of the similarity of a similarity assumes the approximation of the bad model and the ambiguity of pretence.
