Fluorescent painting, black light, ceramic, wood, stainless steel disc
Solocto is an immersive, site-specific artwork composed of tables looking like compasses or crystals. They project black light, revealing a constellation of drawings created directly on the walls using paint, spray paint, and markers. Through these drawings, the artist constructs a formal lexicon linked to esotericism, black magic, or spiritualism: skulls, candles, dice, ghosts, stars, bones, hands, and other strange creatures.
He draws on iconography deeply rooted in the Western collective imagination, particularly through literature and film. He also extracts references from specific works such as The Grimoire of Pope Honorius (1670), a collection of conjurations, spells, and enchantments intended for the Pope. Both a researcher and a storyteller, Jimmy Richer articulates knowledge and plays with truths to unlock the imagination.
