In March 2019, while searching for a production site to prepare for the Ventôse exhibition, we set up at La Moulinerie in Aveyron, in an old abandoned livestock farm that had been converted into a log cabin construction site. We were quickly able to make our first tools from the farm’s waste materials (fencing, oil drums, chains, etc.) and the nearby timber yard. Concrete moulds, cast on barrels or directly on the ground, provided the patterns, which were printed in successive layers on large sheets of assembled fabric. At the end of each run, in large metal inkwells made from unfolded cans, the roller is loaded with paint, made from wild earth and metal oxides, before setting off again, pushed across the monumental canvas, on a landscape scale.
