Following a research-creation residency

How would our society change if communication were based solely on gestures, replacing speech? This is one of the central questions Geoffrey Badel asks in his research-creation residency at ECHOTONE, which began in 2024. Silence is present in his artistic practice, where the worlds of the invisible and the inaudible take the form of immersive installations composed of drawing, sculpture, ritual and performance.

The Quidam exhibition is the result of this research. Its title refers to a questioning around the designation of one or more beings who may be loved ones or even oneself, ensuring communication between here and beyond. The public is invited to discover a large display of recent and older drawings, punctuated with fragments of text and objects. This emotionally charged installation allows visitors to immerse themselves in a narrative where the relationship with the silent world and its transmission is revealed clue by clue. Geoffrey draws on his relationship with deafness, as it has been woven into his family life, to invite us to engage in free reflection guided by voice, breath and hands.
