In Situ

The In situ series, begun in 2016, shows views of interiors or exteriors presenting my formal creations. These places are often my studio, where the works are in progress, hung on the wall, or placed randomly. They can also be places where these works have been exhibited or created.

The working process involves choosing a photography, which is then worked digitally as a sketch before being painted. As I did with the monotype technique when I was at art school, the “tracing” option forces me to work “blindly,” creating a distance from the photography’s reality and allowing me to retain only the essential elements. This approach of trust, this reappropriation of chance, and the discovery of the result, bring life to the work : subjectivity tempered by objectivity. The act of painting allows me to be myself in the reality and transcend the source image through the medium of paint. As Gilles Deleuze said, presence is what painting creates.
