With ML, Anna Meschiari builds a monumental and translucent structure whose uncertain contours disrupt the viewers’ usual points of reference. Plastic, the quintessential industrial material, is here diverted from its conventional use: it acquires an almost organic, vibrant dimension, oscillating between architectural rigor and ephemeral fragility. Through its sculptural scale, ML asserts itself in the space and defines a path: visitors are invited to walk around it, to observe its multiple facets without ever being able to pass through it. This physical impossibility of entering the structure reinforces the tension between exterior and interior, accessible and inaccessible, visible and hidden. The viewer’s body is set in motion, compelled to a mindful wandering, where each movement reveals a new visual configuration. The subtle interplay of transparency amplifies this ambivalent experience. Massive in space, the installation nevertheless remains visually porous, allowing light to filter through the paintings, reminiscent of a possible X-ray or a kind of membrane, and reflecting fragments of the surrounding environment. The structure appears simultaneously solid and permeable, imposing and light, capturing and diffusing light depending on the angle of view. Thus, ML establishes a continuous dialogue between opacity and clarity, material presence and optical disappearance, between what separates and what connects. This architectural sculpture stems from a reflection the artist has been developing for several years on the notions of trap and lure. This work began in 2018 during her residency at the Fondazione Ratti in Como, Italy. The title ML is a discreet tribute to Marta Lonzi (1938 - 2008), Italian architect and member of the Rivolta Femminile group.
