Cabaret Sommes was conceived by Jérôme Souillot, Nicolas Puyjalon and Émilie Franceschin as a visual and performative art form.
Cabaret Sommes is a living tableau in which the impulses of life, determination, desire, tenderness, danger and the exultation of the body are displayed. Dancing in images until you can’t dance anymore. Diving in, drinking, eating desire.
A place opens up as you slip into sleep. An abstract equation sets the scene and the tone. Something will happen and everything may fall apart. Born, cradled and raised in a space of plethora of images, the characters come and become others in a moving diorama. The bodies are drawings that evolve in the painted presences, which move them, take hold of them like props or puppets.
Les voix deviennent laxes, les mots une matière molle, superposée ou métamorphosée qui surgit aux bouches comme les muscles se détendent en dormant.
La lumière est actrice, elle poursuit ou emmitoufle les scènes en dévoilant ses sources.
Voices become lax, words a soft, superimposed or transformed substance that emerges from mouths as muscles relax during sleep. Light plays a leading role, pursuing or enveloping scenes while revealing its sources.
Music, also embodied, accompanies the characters as if it were the soundtrack to their obsessions and fantasies.
There are bas-reliefs, Greek vase decorations, wide open American spaces, grand ladies and music hall magicians, Berenice and Titus, country music, monks of a dreamlike cult, a herd, a Berlin nightclub, fire, playback, a purple horse, German expressionism, a neon microphone, a character in white slime, lasers, a sculpting jigsaw, a lively chase, water, a dusty foam cowboy, a chocolate equestrian striptease, shoes and a plaster microphone, cybernetics, Javanese, ruffles galore, a Pythia, great Italian songs, Bluetooth, big clean-ups, Loïe Fuller perhaps, Barbara certainly…
