Geoffrey Badel presents a sensory installation that combines existing works and new creations, aiming to evoke a space of healing and care. This imaginary place seeks to soothe the spirit by representing the fragility of life. The installation Lambeaux is composed of a dozen old linen sheets, dyed with ink prepared from ingredients found in theriac, a famous antidote used to treat plague victims. The evanescent and ghostly forms of the dye give the sheets a pictorial dimension. Suspended wax finger casts seem to slip between the folds, even hoisting themselves up. Upon entering the exhibition, visitors find themselves surrounded by two monumental panels of these sheets, which give off a strong scent of spices and plants. The installation creates a scenography that divides the exhibition space, alters the flow of movement, obstructs the view and reveals the background in its interstices. It invites visitors to enter an olfactory, therapeutic and intimate space where fingers, like coins thrown into a wishing well, play a symbolic role. The colour of the fabrics draws the eye to the drawings on the walls, made on old paper, where magical and strange figures are depicted without their meaning being immediately revealed.
