David Coste constructs territories that are alternately utopic, heterotopic or dystopic, in a constant oscillation between reality and fiction. The circulation and reinterpretation of images are at the basis of his process, which unfolds through a convergence of the practices of drawing, photography and installation. Often developed on a large architectural scale, his set images are presented in specific interiors and exteriors, extending his questioning about fiction, reality and the cinematic. His work often focuses on the strange landscapes shaped by man for and through the cultural and tourist industries. For L’été photographique 2022, he is showing a new project, Rémanence futur, which is rooted in research on the relationship between fiction, science fiction, images from genre films and the intermediary places of art centre and film set. The image is approached as a place with its own reality, its own frontier and its power to suggest other worlds. The artist plays on the paradox between tangible, sensitive, imaginary and practicable space. The threshold of the images is no longer impassable, but a space to be explored, with the awareness of being both here and there.
